Should other people live their sex lives to conform to you aesthetic preferences?

I am going to quote at length from the Tumblr blog, All Women Should Be Like This, the blog entry is, "My Offensive Blog & 3rd Wave Feminism".
I get hatemail, and it doesn’t surprise me.
The fact is, that what I write is extremely offensive if taken without the understanding that this is about a certain section of BDSM; that it revolves around the sexual pleasure that some of us take from humiliation, degredation, name-calling, objectification and so on. Without that understanding I come off as an evil rape-apologist, massive mysogynist, women-hater and generally the scum of the earth.
To my understanding the first movement of feminism occured during the fight for sufferage. This was the first wave. The second wave of feminism is the kind that occured primarily during the 50’s and 60’s when women fought not just for the right to vote, but to be accepted as equals in their abilty to work, think and function in society. This was typified by the attitude of ‘men and women are the same’. 3rd wave feminism is what is happeneing right now, and the funny thing is that sometimes it doesn’t look like feminism at all. That’s why it’s confusing.

3rd wave feminism is charactersed by the ability of women to decide their own role, their own sexual identity and their own place in society. It’s the ideal that if a woman wants to be a CEO, or the president, a doctor, lawyer, scientist or whatever - she can be that. But just as equally, if she wants to be a stereotypical 1950’s housewife, or a sexual slave, or even a nameless object just used for fucking, then she can be that too… Most importantly, because both were choices made by the woman without duress, they are BOTH equally valid and worthwhile.

I was once watching or listening to a Gloria Steinem interview where she made the claim that many if not most women in the sex industry were molested or had their trust violated in a sexual manner.

And I've chatted with a few of these women. Rachel was an extreme case.

While I can see the point of trying to keep people from being exploited or violated, there are people who get aroused engaging in this behavior.

Where do they fit into society?

"Hey, I know (but don't want to acknowledge) you get aroused by extreme degradation. But I want you to take one for Team Girl Power and forgo your preferred sexual practices--stuff I'm not into anyways, so it's not a sacrifice for me--so that we can correct the power imbalance in society. Besides, what you like isn't healthy."

You're not really free if you can't live your sex life as you choose.

And you're kinda an asshole if you're telling people how they should have sex to make their existence fit your aesthetic.

  2. If someone is not interested in a particular sexual activity/fetish, then they simply don't have to participate; no need to harrass or those who do choose to engage in such practices. Live and let live.
