cybersex vs. camming vs. cybershow

As used by the media "cybersex" seems to include a bunch of stuff that is not "cybersex" in my thinking. Below is what I believe to the correct words and definitions.

cybersex n. (to cyber v.) - chatting online via text when the subject is sex. If Person A is getting aroused chatting to Person B, but B is not getting aroused it is possible for A to have cybersex with B without B having cybersex with A. One does not need to masturbate while chatting.
to cam - when one or more of the people chatting is appearing on a webcam, this is most properly called "camming". My preference would be that "camming" be used when the activity is not done for money or supervised by a third party.
cybershow (cyber peep show) - when the performer is paid to give a show, this is most accurately described as a cybershow.
When Dan Savage gave examples of ways to have sex while avoiding the risk of pregnancy he list cybersex. It also has little of transmission of STIs.
Here are a few other 100 percent foolproof ways to prevent pregnancy, Bristol [Palin], right off the top of my head: mutual masturbation, oral sex, anal sex (aka "saddlebacking" when practiced by Christian teens), outercourse, sex toys, cybersex, GAY SEX. There are actually lots of "foolproof" ways for teenagers (and adults) to be intimate without risking an unplanned pregnancy.
But some like to lump all sorts of things under "cybersex". E-cloudy writes about a 29 year old man video taping having sex with a 13 year old girl and putting it online. The headline is "Cyber Sex Offender Fined $3k in Bangladesh".

"Cyber sex"? How about "rape"? The issue in this situation is clearly statutory rape and non-consent. But  for some reason "rape" and "consent" aren't used in the article, but "cyber sex" is in the headline.

The act of chatting online about sex between consenting adults doesn't deserve to be lumped into the same word as raping 13 year old girls and marketing the footage online.
Ain't the same fuckin' ballpark, it ain't the same league, it ain't even the same fuckin' sport.

  1. This is a web board where a person asks about finding cybersex chat sites online.

Because of the lack of differentiation between cybersex (chat) and cybershows, it's hard to find a website to chat on.
